The Quietest Year Film Screening

A reimagining of the painting American Gothic shows the man and woman covering their ears with the Green Mountains of Vermont behind them. Text says:

The South Burlington Public Library will be showing The Quietest Year, from Brave Little Films and directed by Karen Akins.

The Quietest Year examines the hidden crisis of noise pollution, highlighting its severe impacts on public health and the environment. Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many sought refuge in Vermont’s rural beauty, the film follows individuals like Michael Shank and Karen Akins, whose lives were disrupted by relentless noise from gunfire, animal disturbances, and military jets. With medical experts weighing in on the health risks, the film underscores the urgent need for political action to protect communities. Despite progress in Vermont, where some towns are implementing noise ordinances, the film calls for nationwide change to address this growing health crisis.
