The South Burlington Public Library is committed to providing services to all members of the community. We strive to make vital resources accessible to all patrons. On this page, you will find accessibility and accommodation information relating to library’s collection, services, and technology.
Collections
Audiobooks are available as CDs and online through Libby. The CDs for adults are located on the 2nd floor and children’s CDs are located in the Kidspace.
Large print books for adults are available on the 1st floor near the entrance. Kidspace also has a large print collection for children. South Burlington residents may request large print books from another library.
Libby provides downloadable Audiobooks and eBooks which have accessibility features, such as adjustable text size, adjustable playback speed, and a zoom feature for images.
Services
ABLE Library is a free national library program that provides braille and recorded materials to people who cannot see regular print or handle print materials. If you are prevented from reading standard print due to blindness, visual impairment, physical disability, or a reading disability, you may be eligible for services.
Technology
The Library has desktop computers and laptops available to use within the Library. Using a computer and the WiFi network is free and available to everyone. The desktop computers on the 2nd floor all contain the screen reader, Microsoft Narrator.
There is a low vision desktop computer, which provides larger font, cursor, and icons as well as increased contrast.
The library has an assistive listening system installed in the Digital Lab, Community Room, Auditorium, and at the Circulation Desk. Patrons hoping to use these service should ask staff for assistance in connecting to the assistive listening system.
Digital Lab & Community Room:
- Wi-Fi based Assistive Listening Devices.
- Patrons with T-Coil or Bluetooth enabled hearing aids can connect to this service to listen to audio produced by microphones or played media in those rooms.
Auditorium and Circulation Desk:
- Built in Hearing Loop system.
- Patrons with T-Coil enabled hearing aids can connect to these loop systems to better hear staff at the circulation desk or performances in the auditorium.
