Planning Your Visit to the Library

at the library we walk, use inside voices, put away things we take out, follow computer guidelines, respect the space so other people can enjoy it too.Marabella KidSpace

This children’s area holds books and materials for children ages birth to 13. In addition, the parenting section provides books and information for adult caregivers of children to age 18. For everyone to enjoy the library, we ask that everyone know what behavior we expect in this space.

Computers

The Marabella KidSpace has three public access computers available for one hour at a time in the Hangout space. These three computers offer unfiltered internet access. Library staff expect that parents, guardians and adult caregivers will be aware of this feature and carefully monitor their children’s internet use. Printing is not available in this space, but is available on the 2nd floor. See our Computer and Internet Use Policy or our guide to the computers for more details.

Children in the space

Children in grades five and up may attend the library and library programs without an adult or guardian. Children younger than grade five must always have an adult (over age 16) caregiver with them. If adult caregivers leave the space, we expect that children will go with them. Adult caregivers may not leave children under 5th grade, unattended—even to go upstairs and grab a book. Library staff cannot be responsible for unattended children. See our Child Safety Policy for more details.

Convenience

Food and drink is allowed in the Activity Room. This is the ONLY space available to have food & drink. Please be respectful of this rule and help us keep the Marabella KidsSpace clean for everyone to enjoy.

Additionally we have a nursing room with a comfy chair available for nursing mothers. Please ask if you need toys to help keep a toddler occupied while using this room. There is also a family restroom with a changing table and toddler seat available in the KidSpace.

Respectful conduct

Children and adults using the space are asked to use it respectfully. Behavior that interferes with any other person’s use or enjoyment of the space is considered disruptive and may result in being asked to leave. Library staff work hard to make sure that the KidSpace is enjoyable for all patrons, and we expect parents, guardians, and adult caregivers to communicate behavior expectations to the children in their care. Please talk to our Library staff if you have questions about the Patron Code of Conduct
