Evening Book Group: In Other Words/In Altre Parole

The SBPL Evening Book Group meets in the Community Room on the 4th Thursday of every month. Enjoy a stimulating conversation about books and exchange perspectives about characters and plot while getting to know your neighbors. Join us in May as we talk about In Other Words (In Altre Parole) by Jhumpa Lahiri.
A fascinating and unusual memoir from the author of such beloved modern fiction as The Namesake and The Interpreter of Maladies, In Other Words tells of Lahiri's quest to learn how to write in a new voice by immersing herself in the Italian language. It is a diary of Lahiri's move to Rome with her family, as she explores the city, culture, and language. Written in Italian, the language Lahiri had studied for years, and translated to English by Ann Goldstein, In Other Words will appeal to fans of Lahiri's distinctive voice and to anyone who has tried to learn another language or another way of seeing the world.
Print, ebooks and downloadable audiobook copies will be available to borrow from the Library or Libby. Discussion will be hybrid, with in-person and Zoom options. Email sbplprograms@southburlingtonvt.gov or call 802-846-4140 if you have questions, to get the Zoom link, or would like to be added to the email list for this group.
