Vermont Reads: The Light Pirate

Join us for a very special book discussion as part of Vermont Reads 2025: The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton. All are welcome!

The Light Pirate follows Wanda from her birth during a catastrophic hurricane that shares her name. Told in four parts--power, water, light, and time--we accompany Wanda to adulthood, joining her in a world that is shaped by the changing landscape of Florida after weather and rising sea levels have thrown it off balance. This book invites a view of the future that we would hope not to see, but still finds hope and wonder in a land that has been severely changed. This event is made possible by Vermont Humanities.

Lily Brooks-Dalton grew up in Windham County in southern Vermont. She is the bestselling author of The Light Pirate, which was the runner-up for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, a #1 Indie Next title, a Good Morning America Book Club selection, one of NPR’s “Books We Love,” and a New York Times Editors’ Pick.

This discussion will be facilitated by Melissa Lang. Melissa has been an instructor, educational program coordinator, and teacher trainer for over 30 years. She has been discussing Vermont Reads books for the past 8 years, and we are excited to have her lead our discussion.

This book is available for free for those interested in participating in the discussion while supplies last. Please come to the second floor to get a copy.
