Morning Book Group: The Cemetery of Untold Stories

Join the library's Morning Book Group in October as we talk about The Cemetery of Untold Stories by Julia Alvarez.

Alma, a retired author, wants her characters to rest in peace when she returns to the Dominican Republic and buries all of her unfinished works in a "cemetery". But the characters have other ideas, and the cemetery becomes a mysterious sanctuary for their true narratives. Filomena, a local woman hired as the groundskeeper, becomes a sympathetic listener as Alma’s characters unspool their secret tales. Among them: Bienvenida, the abandoned second wife of dictator Rafael Trujillo, consigned to oblivion by history, and Manuel Cruz, Alma's father and a doctor who escaped the Dominican Republic after being targeted for his activism in the Dominican underground.
