Cookbook Club: Special Meeting @ Common Roots
Love to eat? Love to cook? Join us for a monthly cookbook feast! Each month, the group picks recipes from a single book. Each participant chooses a recipe from the book and prepares it for the group's meeting. At our meeting, we eat the dishes we've all prepared and talk about what inspired us to make them. Please sign up at the circulation desk if you can for the sake of knowing how much seating we should plan for. Drop ins are still welcomed!
In June, we're having a special beginning of summer celebration at Common Roots! Join us at the Common Roots farm stand to enjoy the warm summer weather on a beautiful farm. Cook a dish from your favorite Vermont cookbook! A selection of books will be available for check out on the 2nd floor of the library. For consideration of other attendees, we will ask that you only take out one book at a time.
A special thank you to Common Roots for hosting! Common Roots is a local nonprofit delivering food education and increasing food access by stewarding healthy soils to grow nourishing food to provide fresh meals and organic produce to the community. Their mission is to engage farmers, educators, and community members to foster a sustainable local food system that supports food equity, food education, and organic farming. Check out their website for more information on what they do.
A few things to know about our special venue:
Please be sure to come to the Common Roots Farm Stand, not the Dorset Street location.
Please wear comfortable, closed toe shoes. There will be a farm tour at the beginning of the evening, followed by our usual potluck and cookbook discussion. Plates and plasticware will be provided. Electricity is available for those who wish to plug in crockpots or the like, and some cooler space will also be available. Please dress for the weather, as the intention is to eat outside under a covered pavillion. Please keep an eye on this page for a rain plan if the need arises.
Here is a link to the farm stand on Google Maps.
For those who prefer written directions: Heading south on Spear Street from Burlington turn left at the traffic light onto Allen Rd East into the South Village Development, then take a left onto Farm Way in front of the first row of houses until you get to the Farmstand Red Barn. Park nearby.

The Cookbook Club (usually) meets in the Community Room at the South Burlington Public Library on the first Tuesday of the month from September to June. Copies of the book will be available for browsing recipes at South Burlington Public Library for a month leading up to the meeting. To attend, let us know what you plan to cook by signing up at the Circulation Desk or by emailing sbplprograms@SouthBurlingtonVT.gov.
