Everyone knows about the Friends of the South Burlington Public Library, and how your membership helps support SBPL. You may not know that the FOL supports the library and its readers through the purchase of the monthly resource, BookPage. This magazine highlights new books, interviews with authors, book club recommendations and thematic lists. They also offer free e-newsletters by genre that anyone can sign up for.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in light of public libraries’ temporary closure, BookPage is making available all their 2020 issues, which can be found here. There are also our free e-newsletters by genre which are available to both staff and patrons.
The April edition is pictured above and highlights Emily St. John Mandel and her new book, The Glass Hotel. One reviewer compared it to her earlier book: “More complicated, weirder and far more haunted than Station Eleven, the new novel from Emily St. John Mandel defies all expectations.” Goodreads describes the novel as, “a captivating novel of money, beauty, white-collar crime, ghosts, and moral compromise.”
With your library staff working from home and unable to hand you a new title to try, the BookPage e-newsletters can provide some suggestions of books to borrow on Libby/Overdrive or to look for at the SB Library once we are open for business. -JM
