SBPL is moving to Koha!
South Burlington Public Library is adopting a new digital cataloging system. Beginning September 23, 2026, your online experience with us will look different. But your access to quality materials, resources, and services remains the same!
Why this change?
We are joining the Koha cataloging system shared by the majority of Homecard libraries. You will now be able to search materials offered by SBPL and surrounding libraries, all at once! And if you borrow from multiple libraries, you can view all your checkouts on the same account. No more juggling logins!
Will any library services be disrupted?
As we prepare to switch:

September 21-22, you will not have online access to place holds, renew items, or edit your account.

No materials will be checked in on September 21 or 22. You may still return items during this time, but there will be a delay to them coming off your account.

Library cards cannot be created or renewed on September 21 or 22.

Due date reminders will be paused from September 21-27, but no accounts will be restricted during this time.
Where will I find the new catalog?
Starting September 23, the CATALOG button at southburlingtonlibrary.org will lead you to the new platform. If you have the old catalog bookmarked on your device, you will need to remove it and bookmark the new one.
Will my login be the same?
You’ll still log in using the barcode on your library card, but your password will default to your last name (as recorded in our system) with its first letter capitalized. For example, if your name is Ethan Allen, your password will be “Allen”. You can change this in your account settings at any time. If you use the Libby or Palace apps, you may be asked to enter your new PIN. Use the password described above.
What if I have data saved in the current catalog?
Your current checkouts and holds will carry over to the new system, but your checkout history and any custom book lists you have made will not. You should plan to download these by September 20. Ask a staff member if you need help!
What if I’m currently borrowing from SBPL and another Homecard library?
When we merge systems, your accounts here and at the other library should combine to show all your checkouts. If you notice anything missing when you log in, please let us know.
Are any borrowing rules changing?
Nope! You will still have 3 weeks to borrow most SBPL items, with up to 3 automatic renewals if no one else is waiting.
